Investment Strategies and Recommendations – Workforce Development

Sixty percent of the Region 6’s workforce commutes out of the region every day to go to work. The challenge for the region is to develop strategies that will allow these commuters to work closer to home. The lower wage rates paid in the region are a deterrent to luring these commuters to work in the region illustrating the need for higher-wage employment opportunities.

Stakeholder Engagement in Development the Growth and Diversification Plan

A series of stakeholder engagement workshops were held across the region to discuss what is important to the region in terms of growth and development. Meetings were held with the chief administrative officers and Planning District Commission staff of each of the three subregions, George Washington Region, Middle Peninsula, and Northern Neck.

Deep Dive: GO Virginia Region 6’s Growth and Diversification Plan

During the formation of the GO Virginia Initiative, the original legislation directed each of the nine sub-regions to develop and implement an Economic Growth and Diversification Plan. This plan provides the strategic framework that each region uses to solicit and approve proposals for GO Virginia funded regional economic development projects.
