Tim O’Donnell

Dr. Timothy O’Donnell serves as Provost and Chief Academic Officer at the University of Mary Washington, where he oversees the university’s entire academic enterprise. He previously served as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, Associate Provost for Academic Engagement and Student Success, and Director of Accreditation, bringing broad experience across academic administration and student success. Dr. O’Donnell holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.A. in Communication and B.A. in Philosophy from Wake Forest University. His research interests center on debate, argumentation, and rhetoric, and he built a distinguished career as UMW’s Director of Debate, coaching students to national championships and top 10 national rankings over more than a decade.
