Businesses, large or small, require suitable facilities to conduct their business. If a suitable site or building fails to meet the requirements of a priority industry sector business, it will be forced to locate elsewhere or operate in substandard facilities.

Mary Ball Washington GO Virginia Region 6 Council Approves New Projects

GLENNS, VA – The Mary Ball Washington GO Virginia Region 6 Council announced Monday, February 10th, its eighth round of project grants for initiatives to grow and diversify regional economies across the state. The Mary Ball Washington GO Virginia Region 6 Council approved two projects from across Region 6 for a total of $137,500 in GO Virginia Region 6 funds. This will leverage more than $240,000 of local, federal, and private sector funding toward the two projects.

Investment Strategies and Recommendations – Workforce Development
Sixty percent of the Region 6’s workforce commutes out of the region every day to go to work. The challenge for the region is to develop strategies that will allow these commuters to work closer to home. The lower wage rates paid in the region are a deterrent to luring these commuters to work in the region illustrating the need for higher-wage employment opportunities.

Stakeholder Engagement in Development the Growth and Diversification Plan
A series of stakeholder engagement workshops were held across the region to discuss what is important to the region in terms of growth and development. Meetings were held with the chief administrative officers and Planning District Commission staff of each of the three subregions, George Washington Region, Middle Peninsula, and Northern Neck.

Deep Dive: GO Virginia Region 6’s Growth and Diversification Plan
During the formation of the GO Virginia Initiative, the original legislation directed each of the nine sub-regions to develop and implement an Economic Growth and Diversification Plan. This plan provides the strategic framework that each region uses to solicit and approve proposals for GO Virginia funded regional economic development projects.

Updates to GO Virginia from the State Board
On December 9th, the GO Virginia State Board convened to discuss items surrounding the implementation of GO Virginia across the state and approve projects. The State Board then held a State and Region Leadership Summit directly following the meeting.
