FREDERICKSBURG – GO Virginia Region 6 recently approved funding for regional agencies to develop a pipeline of projects to create more high-paying jobs in the region. The Council is contracting with the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance (FRA), the Northern Neck Chesapeake Bay Region Partnership (NNCBRP), and the Middle Peninsula Alliance (MPA) to lead efforts within their footprints and work together across the region as a whole.
Region 6, which is governed by the Mary Ball Washington Regional Council, consists of the city of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, Essex, Gloucester, King and Queen, King George,
King William, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex, Northumberland, Richmond, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and Westmoreland.
GO Virginia is a statewide economic development initiative that focuses on creating higher-paying jobs that will bring new investment, enhance competitiveness, and diversify the economy in each region of the Commonwealth, in turn spurring the growth of the new Virginia economy. This particular initiative of Region 6 seeks to improve the flow of project applications for funding consideration by the Mary Ball Washington Regional Council, both within and beyond the contract period. In Fiscal Year 2020, the Council anticipates that about $2.2 million will be available to fund projects in Region 6.
FRA, NNCBRP, and MPA will work across the region to develop and implement a communication strategy that elevates both the message of GO Virginia and the project application process for Region 6, develop a list of potential project ideas, and, in collaboration with community stakeholders, develop and submit projects for funding.
The Region 6 Council sees this effort as an opportunity to develop closer ties with business partners within the community to find and curate new and innovative ideas on job growth throughout Region 6.
