John Anzivino

John Anzivino is Chair of the GO Virginia Region 6 Council.

John grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, graduating from Hollywood Hills High School as part of its first graduating class. Attended and graduated from Concord University, Athens, WV – BA in Political Science (1974); Obtained a master’s in public administration, concentration in Urban/Regional Administration from the University of Georgia (1975).

His professional career includes varied public/private sector positions during his 40-plus years of work including:

  • Planning Director/Deputy Director, Eastern Panhandle Planning District Council, Martinsburg, WV
  • Governor’s Office, State of West Virginia, State Planning Director – Coordinated development of State Capital Plan, served as liaison to several federal agencies including Appalachian Regional Commission, regional office of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Economic Development Administration, etc.
  • Local government manager/ administrator in Virginia serving as County Administrator in Amelia and Caroline Counties and Town Manager of the Town of Warrenton, creating economic development functions in each community, developing and expanding utility systems and managing daily operations of growth oriented local governments
  • Mid – Atlantic Group Director, leading the East Coast practice for a national consulting company (Springsted) which focused on assisting local governments and state agencies in solving their short and long-term personnel, financial/budget challenges, organizational development, and economic development issues managing and working on projects from California to Virginia

John and his wife of fifty years (Kristi) retired to Urbanna, Virginia in 2017 and since that time he has served as Interim Town Manager in Purcellville (twice) and Bowling Green, Virginia, Interim County Administrator in Nottoway County, Virginia, and Interim Executive Director for the Front Royal/Warren County Economic Development Authority, also serving as a consultant to several local governments.

In his spare time John officiated college (10 years NCAA) and high school football (27 years Virginia working 4 state championship and numerous playoff games), helped manage renovation of his and Kristi’s Urbanna home and raises oysters (recreationally).

As a Board member of GO Virginia Region 6, John holds assignments to the nominating and industrial site review committees, serves as Chair of the Middlesex County Economic Development Authority (EDA), serves as a member of the Middlesex Board of Supervisors/EDA Coordinating Committee and has served as Vice Chair/Treasurer of Arts in the Middle of Middlesex.
