A Closer Look at the Middle Peninsula: VEDP Visits for FAM Tour
In October, the Middle Peninsula Alliance hosted the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) for a familiarization (FAM) tour. In attendance were staff from the Business Investment, Research, Communications, Workforce, and Strategic Initiative departments. Representatives from Virginia Tourism Corporation and from GO Virginia Region 6 joined the visit.

Registration open for new UMW cybersecurity certification program
The University of Mary Washington announced recently that registration is now open for a new cybersecurity certification program, a program made possible through GO Virginia funding.
A Community Gathering on creating Good Jobs Here – Part 2
On October 17th, Good Jobs Here held its second event to create, measure, execute, and foster economic growth and job in creation in the Fredericksburg region. Utilizing a GO Virginia grant, the George Washington Regional Commission partnered with leading local organizations to create a shared understanding of current data, analysis, strengths, and opportunities for this region.
Highlights from the October 7th Region 6 Full Council Meeting
The Council met the new Deputy Director of GO Virginia and Economic Development at Virginia Department of Housing and Community (DHCD), Ms. Sara Dunnigan. Members and the public had an opportunity to converse with Ms. Dunnigan on GO Virginia and Ms. Dunnigan expressed her readiness to see projects in the region and see positive changes happen with GO Virginia.
The Council discussed the need to have work ready communities and agreed to examine the guidelines around ACT’s Work Ready Community standards at the next Executive Committee meeting to bring forth to the full Council a plan in which Region 6 can champion efforts to assist their communities in achieving this standard.
Welcome Dr. Shannon Kennedy
Dr. Shannon Kennedy replaces Dr. Jason Perry as Rappahannock Community College’s (RCC) nomination to the Council. Dr. Kennedy is the new president of RCC. Dr. Kennedy has more than two decades of higher education experience with a heavy emphasis on academic affairs and workforce development training.
Resignation from the Council
It is with great sadness that Region 6 announces the resignation of our Vice Chair, Carlton Revere, from the Council. Mr. Revere has served on the Council since its inception and has been an integral member driving our Council forward. On behalf of the Council and staff, we would like to thank Mr. Revere for his time and dedication to GO Virginia and Region 6. He has been a valuable asset and will be greatly missed.
At this time, the Nominating Committee is searching for a member of the community to replace Mr. Revere on the Council and a member of the Council to replace him as Vice Chair.

To better assist potential applicants, the Council has partnered with the local Regional Economic Development Organizations (Fredericksburg Regional Alliance, Northern Neck Chesapeake Bay Region Partnership, and Middle Peninsula Alliance) to help assist applicants in LOIs and applications.
